Membership at UUCA

Our members are an integral part of our community here at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Arlington. If you are wondering what “membership” means, the pathway to joining, or just want to better understand what our members do, you will find it here!

Becoming a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Arlington (UUCA) is a meaningful way to deepen your relationship with our community and actively participate in our shared mission. Below are answers to common questions about membership:

Why become a member?

Membership at UUCA offers an opportunity to affirm your commitment to our community. As a member, you can:

  • Participate in Congregational Decisions: Members have the privilege to vote on important church matters, influencing the direction and priorities of our congregation.
  • Access to Programs and Leadership Opportunities: Engage more deeply through participation in various programs and by taking on leadership roles within the church.
  • Build Deep Connections: Forge meaningful relationships with others who share your values, fostering a supportive and transformative community experience.

What does being a member mean?

Being a member signifies a mutual commitment between you and the UUCA community. It involves:

  • Active Participation: Engaging in church activities, attending services, and contributing your time and talents to our collective endeavors.
  • Financial Support: Making a financial pledge that aligns with your means, supporting the church’s operations and goals for healthy sustainability.
  • Shared Responsibility: Collaborating with fellow members to uphold our mission and values.

How do I know if it’s time to start my membership journey?

Deciding to become a member is a personal choice that typically follows a period of exploration and involvement. Perhaps you’ve visited our church a few times, volunteered or attended an event, any of those actions can be informative to your decision. Taking a moment to reflect on your personal spiritual trajectory can also support your decision. Additionally, consider starting your membership journey if:

  • You Are Ready to Engage More Fully: A desire to participate more actively in church life and contribute to our community indicates readiness for membership.
  • You Seek a Spiritual Home: If you are looking for a supportive environment to nurture your spiritual growth, UUCA welcomes you to join us as a member.

How do I become a member?

To begin your membership journey, we encourage you to participate in our “New to UU” sessions, offered several times a year. These sessions provide insights into our church, activities, and offer historical context and the philosophy of Unitarian Universalism. Our next sessions are scheduled for April and May. If there is interest, please follow this link to sign up.

If you have any additional questions, please contact Congregational Engagement Manager Nicole Haley at nhaley@uucava.org

All are welcome here. You do not have to be a member or be considering membership to enter our community, be held in shared values, and to participate in events and offerings. Visitors, friends, and newcomers are welcome at all of our public events, worship, and in classes and workshops offered here.
