Come to Sunday Service

Getting to UUCA

Unitarian Universalist Church of Arlington
4444 Arlington Blvd.
Arlington, VA 22204

UUCA has a large parking lot, and is accessible by public transportation.
Entry by car is usually off George Mason Blvd.

When to Arrive

Sunday Services start at 9:15 and 11:15 a.m. September through May, and at 10:15 a.m. from Memorial Day through Labor Day (check the calendar to make sure). You will want to arrive about 15 minutes early, to make sure you find your way and have time to settle in. If you have children and want them to attend the children’s programming, consider allowing even more time so that you may check the youth space out beforehand.

Things to Know

What to Expect

You will be greeted upon entry, offered a welcome packet, and asked to give yourself a name tag. If you would like to ask questions, the folks welcoming you are a great source of information. As you move toward the Sanctuary, you will receive a printed Order of Service, which lets you know what is happening in the Service that day. All the songs are either printed in the Order of Service, or in the hymnals in the pews. You may sing and stand or not as you feel best.

If you have children, they may stay with you the entire time, or they may go to the children’s programming. Nursery care is offered downstairs–you can ask the Welcome Desk staff about it. If your child is attending the children’s programming, they will start the Service with you, and then head downstairs during the Children’s Song. The only exception to this is if the Service is “multi-generational;” that means children stay in the Sanctuary for the whole Service and there is not children’s programming held that day.

Our services usually include music, readings, reflections, and a sermon – although from time to time services may be different and more creative in form. Most services last about an hour. Following each service, coffee is served and people are able to connect.

Do you welcome people of different faiths?

Yes, we welcome people of many faiths and people with no faith background. Many of our members were raised in other faith traditions, including couples in which the two individuals have different religious backgrounds. Unitarian Universalists believe that truth can be found in many places. Our services include wisdom drawn from many religions as well as from secular sources.

Are you welcoming to the LGBTQ community?

Yes! UUCA is a Welcoming Congregation. This means we affirm and include people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer at every level of congregational life—in worship, in program, and in social occasions. We welcome everyone as whole people.

What is Unitarian Universalism?

Unitarian Universalists are a dynamic community of spiritual seekers guided by a covenant of mutual respect open to you no matter your sexual orientation, race, age, class, disability and ability (both seen and unseen) or religious background. We are a community that promotes love, reason, compassion and activism. We are a community that works to build a more just and peaceful world. We are a community that finds inspiration in music and the arts and honors and respects the beauty of the earth. And we are a community that draws from a wide diversity of religious backgrounds and traditions. Our mission is to be a place where anyone and everyone can Connect, Grow and Serve.

If you would like to learn more about Unitarian Universalism in general, the national website has some great information. Click here.

“UUCA covenants to affirm and promote: journeying toward spiritual wholeness by working to build a diverse multicultural Beloved Community by our actions that accountably dismantle racism and other oppressions in ourselves and our institutions.”
