Sources of Joy

We're an informal group of members and friends of the UUCA who meet regularly for discussion sessions, talks, videos and what-have-you centered around our common interests in humanism. Many of us - though not all - would describe ourselves as secular humanists.

We meet every other Monday from 7:30pm until about 9:15 or 9:30 at the church. Events are announced in the Sunday Order of Service and in the Arlingtarian. These meetings are open to all - you're most welcome to join us!

hUUmanists:

  • Celebrate their membership in the human race and in the cosmos;
  • Take responsibility for their own destiny without reliance upon the supernatural;
  • Celebrate lives well lived, and find comfort and gratitude in their legacy and memory;
  • Derive their goal of moral excellence from human needs and interests, trusting to reason and the testing of consequences;
  • Believe democracy is the best guarantee of a fair and just society;
  • Are inspired by the past discoveries of science, excited by the prospect of those still to be made, and committed to the application of reason;
  • Are dedicated to a creative and emotional life that finds joy, love and commitment in nature and human experience without suspending critical thinking.

Humanism has a long and proud history and a beckoning future. Humanists seek to nurture its traditions, to foster connections with other groups, and to contribute significantly to the spiritual life of Unitarian Universalism.
