Singletarians is the singles
group of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Arlington, Virginia. It
provides opportunities for single members or friends of the church to
strengthen the bonds of community with other singles. All singles
are welcome to participate and to celebrate life through shared experiences.
Twice monthly, fellowship circles are held that deal with a wide variety
of topics. Recent ones have dealt with such topics as favorite music and
relationship issues. Group activities such as movies, dining out, potluck
meals, ice skating parties, hikes, bicycle trips and theater outings are
carried out. There are also service activities, such as preparing lunches
for the homeless and collecting for Sullivan House.
There is a meeting on the
the second Sunday of each month, about 1/2 hour after the second service
(or single service in the summer), to plan for the weeks ahead. Singles
are encouraged to attend these meetings and bring their ideas for fellowship
circles and activities. Individuals take turns serving as coordinators
of the events. A calendar appears regularly in the Singletarians column
of The Arlingtarian newsletter and email is used for updating.
There is no formal Singletarians
membership. However, it is helpful if singles let the coordinators know
what kinds of activities they would like to attend and/or sponsor, and
whether they would like their names, addresses and phone numbers to appear
on a Singletarians roster.
