Unitarian Universalists view religious learning and spiritual growth as a journey which every individual makes. The church is an affirming, as well as challenging, environment which supports its members in their personal odysseys. Our Religious Education programs touch all ages, from infants through children, youth, and adults in all stages of life. Liberal RE has as its core philosophy the notion that inside each person is a seed of compassion and wisdom, waiting to be nurtured, always growing, and longing to blossom forth. The goal of RE, in the words of one of our early teachers Rev. William Ellery Channing, “is not to stamp our minds upon the young, but to stir up their own.” The policies that guide our programs of learning at UUCA are formulated by a volunteer Religious Education Council that works closely with the Minister of Religious Education and the RE Coordinator to implement the various activities which carry out this ministry. The council is made up of, and strives to be responsive to, members of the UUCA community. Our Sunday morning RE program is large and dynamic, gaining its strength from the contributions of many different individuals. RE for children (from two-year olds to grade 8), offered concurrently with Sunday worship services, features curricula which are carefully developed and based on Unitarian Universalist principles. Our high school Youth Group meets on Sunday morning, for learning, fellowship, and planning of non-Sunday activities. We hope to make all learning groups be participatory, hands-on, and fun! We invite you to share in our vision for the future, which is to pass along our Unitarian Universalist heritage and values to our children in a supportive, empowering atmosphere of compassionate community. And, we encourage you to take an active role in supporting our effort to involve children and adults in the lifelong search for truth, values, and meaning.
