Description

The RE Program offers Sunday morning classes and activities for each age group from nursery through High School, as well as intergenerational gatherings and Adult Education classes at other times.  Sunday classes follow a year-long curriculum that introduces important religious education topics through story, discussion, crafts, and other activities. [Please ask the Minister of Religious Education (MRE) if you would  like to review a copy of a curriculum.] Classes also sponsor social events and other fun activities during the year.

            The RE Program as a whole participates in a variety of social action projects that help persons in need, and the importance of helping those in need is integrated into the curricula at each level. The RE Program could not operate without volunteers.

With support from the MRE and the RE Coordinator, volunteers teach classes, organize events, and serve on RE Committees. These volunteers testify to the importance UUCA families attach to RE and act as an incredible source of energy and ideas  for the program.

Statement of Goals

The RE Council has articulated the following goals for children participating in the Religious Education Program:

  • Develop positive self images;
  • Become knowledgeable about Western religion in general and Unitarian Universalism in particular;
  • Be helped to clarify their values in order to make courageous ethical choices throughout their lives;
  • Develop a sense of kinship with and responsibility for all living things;
  • Be alive to the endless possibilities and wonder inherent in life; and
  • Identify themselves as members of an active, caring community which supports them in many ways and is also a force for justice and social responsibility in their community and in the world.
