Description
God Images engages children in their own religious quests, by presenting
images of God from Christian and Jewish traditions, several world religions,
and modern science. The curriculum materials draw on a variety of religious
traditions, including Eastern, Western, modern, ancient, Native American,
African, South American, and others. They also explore a variety of means
of representation and communication, including artistic, musical, written,
ritualistic, and meditative.
While allowing for personal decision-making in the context of lively
discussions and creative activities, God Images provides background material
rich in historical, philosophical, and theological information. It also
encourages students to consider important universal religious questions,
such as "What is God?", and to share their thoughts, feelings,
personal stories, and dialogue about those questions.
Throughout the year, students discuss how traditions evolve over time,
such as the modern-day additions of gender-inclusive language and attempts
to eliminate racial-bias. The students also explore the importance, and
celebrate the diversity among, the religious activities of their friends,
families, and others.
