DISCUSSION TOPICS FOR COVENANT GROUPS

Covenant Groups focus their attention on a specific area of interest such as Peace, Retirement, Eco-Spirituality, Art and Spirit, etc. or on the monthly sermon series.

BIG QUESTIONS: A Series of 8 Monthly Sermons

BIG QUESTIONS” is the theme for this year’s sermon series as well as the theme for our covenant groups, and other programs.  We will explore some of the big questions we all think about and struggle with, such as:  how to find or create a purpose, how to live deliberately and many others.  In that exploration we will create an opportunity to grow our spirituality and strengthen our connections to one another.

What are Covenant Groups?

Covenant Groups are small monthly gatherings that meet for the purpose of getting to know each other on a deeper level, developing a richer spirituality, and reaching out to others.

How Do They Work?

Groups open with an inspirational reading followed by a personal check-in. Then there is a discussion of one of the "Big Questions" sermons or whatever topic is the focus of the particular group. Participants are urged to speak from the heart and to share their own personal experiences. A final brief check-out and reading ends each session.

Why Covenant Groups?

Most churches have group meetings, but a Covenant Group has five characteristics in common: a shared format, a trained leader, a small size, regular meetings, and a covenant. Groups meet at least monthly in homes or at church. Covenant Groups also make a covenant -- or a promise -- how the members intend to relate to each other and how they, as a group, will serve the church.

Why Should I Join a Covenant Group?

Covenant Groups help people to get to know each other on a deeper level, encourage the development of a richer spirituality, and give participants the opportunity to work together to help others.

How to join?

You may sign up for a group at the kiosk in the fellowship hall during the month of September, or contact Linda Switzer at the church office (703-892-9061, linda.switzer@uucava.org) who will direct you to the appropriate covenant group steering committee volunteer who will help you find a group that works for you.
