Stewardship Campaign 2008-2009
Generosity, Hospitality & Justice

What is Stewardship?

Webster's Dictionary defines STEWARDSHIP as the careful and responsible management of something entrusted to one's care.

We are blessed to belong to a faith community that places generosity, hospitality and justice as the goals of our spiritual journey together.

We understand that although our gifts of time and talent are generous, our gift of treasure to this beloved community is crucial to our becoming a more hospitable and justice seeking congregation.

Often we think of stewardship as only a financial decision. We have to fund the operation of the church and each of us agrees to do so to the best of our ability. But stewardship isn't just about money. We are stewards of many things such as our families, our relationships, our health, our Earth. . .

That is why I believe stewardship and giving are spiritual exercises. The giving of our time and talent and treasure to everything that matters to us, what we care for, what we love, means it is far more than just a mechanical decision. It is an act of love, and, after all, isn't love at the heart of our faith?

This year the congregation celebrates 60 years of service, and as we embark on our next 60 we ask that each of us think about how important it is that we steward our beloved community to the highest level of which we are capable. We look forward to you playing your spiritual role in our journey over the next 60 years.

-- Rev. Michael McGee

The Three Virtues of Stewardship. . .

HOSPITALITY: hospitable treatment

JUSTICE: the principle or ideal of just dealing or right action

GENEROSITY: a quality or fact of being generous; abundance

UUCA has a lot to look forward to this spring and beyond. In our 60th year, leadership has been inspired to see in our complex tapestry, a substantial thread that communicates "always making room;" room for radical practice of hospitality, generosity and justice. In so doing may you be inspired to dig deep and recommit your time, talent and treasure that we may articulate and pursue dreams of leadership, programming, and facilities worthy of our large and influential congregation.

UUCA Board Chair
